Hot Cakes

“Have fun storming the castle.”
- Miracle Max (actor Billy Crystal) in ‘The Princess Bride’

Lisa and I often say that, so long as we’re together, we can have fun anywhere. Spending 13 hours delayed in an airport, stranded on an icy cold chairlift, getting chased by a bat…all fun, fun, fun. So, when we decided to spend a week in New York for Book Expo 2010, we were psyched.

Monday and Tuesday were set-up days. After the lightning-fast assembly of Bite Me booth #3036, we managed to scarf down our favorite ricotta and roasted red pepper pizza at Lombardi’s, devour best morning eats like crunchy French toast and mile-high quesadilla’s at Norma’s and of course, demolish frozen yogurt (don’t you hate people who say “fro yo?”) flavors such as Cake Batter, Dulce de Leche and New York Cheesecake at 16 Handles in the East Village.

Fast forward through a massive stomach ache and you land on Tuesday night, when we celebrated Bite Me being a Silver Medal Winner at the Independent Publisher Book Awards.

Wednesday and Thursday, we could be found in our 10 x 10 space at the Javits Center introducing book lovers to Bite Me. The response to our cookbook and reusable Bite Me shopping totes was overwhelmingly positive, as were unsolicited comments regarding my laugh lines (“Deep,” said a woman who professed to be a ‘Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Advisor’), Lisa’s chest (“Show more bosom,” encouraged a journalist) and our sisterly (“You’re the loud one, huh?” a retired General said to me) banter.

An amazingly fun week of countless laughs and time spent with…

THE really GOOD THE really BAD THE really
SMOKING HOT

expect me: Furious Pete
